Sports Update

NFL

With the race for the NFL playoffs heating up, it’s worth noting that after a slow start to the season, favourites have taken over. They have now covered the spread in 52.5 percent of all games and have won 67.8 percent of all games outright.

Week 15 kicks off with a battle between two struggling teams on Thursday Night Football. The Denver Broncos are seeing 63 percent of the early action as 2.5-point favourites in Indianapolis, even though the Broncos are only 3-9 against the spread this season.

This week marks the beginning of Saturday NFL games on the schedule as the Chicago Bears visit the Detroit Lions and the Chiefs host the Chargers. Bettors like the favourites in these two games – the Lions at -5.5 and Kansas City at -1.5.

The two biggest games on the Week 15 schedule look to be the Sunday afternoon tilt between the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers and the Sunday Night Football matchup that has the Dallas Cowboys visiting the Oakland Raiders. It’s not often we see bettors going against the Pats, but about 55 percent of bettors like Steelers as 3-point favourites. In the nightcap, more than 80 percent of our bets are on the Cowboys as field-goal favourites.

College football

Starting this Saturday, you’ll have more college football bowl games to bet on than you can shake a point spread at. The action gets going Saturday with five bowl games, including the New Orleans Bowl, the Las Vegas Bowl, and the New Mexico Bowl. The Troy Trojans are seeing tons of betting support as 7-point favourites against North Texas in the first game of the day and Oregon is another touchdown favourite seeing lots of bets as the Ducks clash with Boise State.

Alabama remains the +162 favourite to win the CFP National Championship, followed by Clemson at +250, and Georgia and Oklahoma each at +325.

NHL

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Tampa Bay Lightning continue to cash in for bettors, thanks in large part to some big profits on home ice. Both squads have earned their bettors more than eight units on their home games alone. With Tampa Bay filling the net with the league’s best offence and Vegas finally getting healthy now that goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is on the mend, these two clubs could stick at the top of the NHL money standings for a while.
